Hi there! I’m Sarah, Recruiter and Content Creator at Engenda Group.

How I ended up in recruitment is a long journey with an outcome that I never really expected but I am happy that I found it. After spending my childhood writing about anything I could, I got distracted in my late teen/early adult years by my other creative passion – dance!

Unfortunately, I suffered a back injury that halted my dance career, so I then returned to the ‘real world’ of working. I worked for several years at The Everyman and Playhouse theatres in Liverpool, before pursuing work supporting vulnerable adults – long story short, I worked for a long time in care at various levels, but it wasn’t a career that I wanted to progress in.

It wasn’t until I was in my early-mid-30s that I decided that I wanted to return to education, gain a degree, and pursue a career in my first love – writing! I applied to study for a BA Hons degree in Creative Writing and Film Studies at Liverpool John Moores University, and, after gaining a few entry qualifications, I commenced this in September 2018.

During this study I enjoyed writing film reviews and any form of criticism and felt I wanted to pursue an avenue in some form of content. I received a ‘Research Excellence’ award for co-creating the YouTube podcast channel, The Garland Gab, and after graduating I decided to develop my skills further by pursuing an MA in Journalism.

During my MA, I also studied for the NCTJ diploma in Journalism and, although I still have to complete my final project on my MA and one more exam on the NCTJ diploma, I achieved so much during the course. I worked on many roles during the live news days, producing content for Merseynewslive including the top news story on the first day of work. Alongside working as a reporter, each week I took on a different role, including digital editor, social media editor, radio producer, radio presenter and TV news presenter. All of this accumulated in a distinction graded portfolio and a gold standard graded NCTJ e-portfolio.

Also, during my MA I won a competition for writing a theatre review of the play The Curious Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, I wrote arts related content for the online publication ‘Uncover Liverpool,’ and I worked as an intern on the EDI resources for LJMU’s Journalism department – this project has recently been recognised and awarded by the NCTJ.

And this is where recruitment comes into play…

Now my role doesn’t just involve writing and creating content for Engenda, but I do full 360 recruitment for everything EPC related. I love my job because I get to work in a dynamic team who are centred on providing the best jobs to the best workers in the industry. Not only am I part of this vibrant department but I still get to be creative whilst doing it.

If you work in an engineering or design role then I can chat to you about a variety of roles from Piping Design/Engineering-Project Controls Management.
