Client: Ethylene Oxide Producer Location: Hull, UK Duration: Summer2018 Contract Type: 2018 ETAC Major Turnaround & Catalyst Change
Following on from a successful 2015 Catalyst Change that Engenda had undertaken for the client on the Hull Saltend chemical park, we were subsequently awarded a significantly increased scope for their next 2018 Major Turnaround event. The increased scope awarded to Engenda this time included the catalyst change but also extended to debottlenecking works to achieve a desired 40% increase in plant output, achieved through the replacement and uprating of a number of unit operations within a planned outage
The Engenda Group provided a combined design and execution service that comprised of taking the initial feed study information and through to completion of the design for both the Mechanical and Electrical & Instrumentation scope, which included both the process engineering and detail construction design elements.
Running in tandem with design works, Engenda also undertook the plan and preparation works prior to then following seamlessly into carrying out all advance prefabrication of pipework, steelwork and vessels, before finally moving onto site to carry out the outage works, which consisted of plant removals, repairs, the installation of new pipework & equipment. Engenda then completed the works with the final commissioning and handover of the plant within the required outage window.
To complete the turnaround in the required timescales, Engenda assigned around 100 MEI in-house trades personnel to the site works, supported by 30+ site management and supervisory team, who also regularly support other TAR events around the company on behalf of a variety of divisions of the Ineos group of companies. In 2019, this support extended to the provision of circa 250 trades and engineering personnel across 4 plant shutdowns between August and September.
